Lesson Observation and Feedback

Most lesson observations change nothing. Yours can. A practical, self-paced course for Heads of Department, subject Co-ordinators and senior leaders. Learn to record real evidence, hold feedback conversations that end in one practised change, and build a team where teachers want you in their classrooms. 18 lessons, a practical task in every lesson and a 13-hour certificate. Includes free access to the Northbeam Leaders’ Circle community.

What you will gain

By the end of the course

Evidence, not judgement

Learn to watch students first and record what you see in a form colleagues can act on, so feedback is never just your opinion.

Feedback that changes practice

Use a five-step conversation that ends with one clear action step, practised together before your colleague leaves the room.

Coaching that sticks

Move from telling to coaching, use deliberate practice and follow up, so improvements last well beyond the next observation.

Who it is for

Is this course for you?

This course is for you if you observe lessons as a Head of Department, subject Co-ordinator, Year Head or senior leader, if your feedback conversations feel awkward or change very little, or if you want a team where open classrooms are normal. You will finish with a feedback structure you can use tomorrow, an observation calendar for your team and a one-page Observation Improvement Plan.

  • A certificate for 13 hours of professional development when you finish
  • A Participant Workbook (your Leadership Journal) and a guide to the research behind each module, both to download
  • Free access to the Leaders’ Circle, our online community for school leaders

Why I made this course

I’m Jacques Tredoux. I’ve worked in schools for more than twenty years, led schools in three countries and chaired international accreditation visiting teams. Too many good teachers are promoted into leadership and left to work it out alone. I built this course from real situations in real schools, so every lesson gives you something you can use on Monday.
